Band didn’t work

Hello, I went swimming with my Apple Watch and the band did not stay on and it is now gone. I am pretty disappointed, as I was led to believe the band was pretty strong. I had apple care and loved my watch very much and seriously cannot afford to pay full price for a new one right now. What do you think you could help me with?
