I am trying to install a new Verbatim CD/DVD Write to mu iMac Catalina Version 10.16.7. It is a 27 inch late 2012.

It should just work with whatever software you have.
The Verbatim software's 32 bit and the iMac is 64 bit. It says that I need an app for a link between the two.
You don't need the Verbatim software for reading and playing, and there is no translator to go to 64 bit. If you want to burn a DVD, you might have to find some authoring software.
