"@" symbol when holding the number 2 key on a digital keyboard doesn't work?

I just started using my iPad Pro, and is it normal that the @ symbol when holding the number 2 key doesn't work? I keep trying to hold the key 2 to get an @ symbol.

You should swipe the number 2 key down, not hold. This is true for all keys that have special characters in them. Swipe down.
