M1 Mac Mini Wakes from Sleep or Boots Up Slowly

I have an M1 Mac Mini that typically takes about 50 seconds to boot after being turned off and left for a day. If I turn it off and go back to it on the same day, at takes about half that time to come up.I was advised to just put it to sleep. It takes 20 - 25 seconds to wake from sleep. Could it be the analog monitor I have connected through the Thunderbolt port using the Apple connector? This monitor works fine otherwise but if it's slowing the process down, I'll but a Full-HD digital monitor. I'm also very security conscious and also use Virusbarrier, which has a firewall. Can that be a contributor to the slow wake up? Thanks.

Hello PhotosPete,

It sounds like you have some questions about slow but at times with your Mac mini. We will be happy to assist you.

It sounds like your device is going into a standby mode. Let's test a setting and see if it makes a difference on your Mac. Can you go to System Preferences > Energy Saver > and turn off "Prevent Computer from sleeping automatically when display is off" and see if that helps?

Cheers!

Hi i_rina,

Thank you for your reply. I was shutting my M1 Mac mini all the way down when I finished using it but it was almost taking a full minute to come up when I powered it back on. I was advised just to put it to sleep instead. From sleep it takes 25-30 seconds to get the logon screen from the time I hit the return key. Is this normal or should it wake from sleep in less time?

Once the computer is fully awake it's very fast. I do very basic tasks on it but the performance is very good! It's just that the wait times to get a screen are far different from my Intel Macs. Thanks again for your reply.

Best,

Pete
