Can I also sign in to my daughters iphone with my apple I'd, or does it only let 1 user sign in?

The phone is a single user device. You could sign into Messages while she is signed in everywhere else, but you can't have 2 Apple IDs signed into the same place, for example iCloud, at the same time.
