ASUS Monitor will not re-sync to iMac after sleep

My ASUS VP28CQG monitor goes to sleep (orange led) when my iMac goes to sleep. However, when I wake the iMac the ASUS wakes but does NOT see a signal from the iMac.

If I turn off the ASUS before putting the iMac to sleep, then turn on the ASUS before waking the iMac, all works fine. I just don't think turning off the ASUS every night is a good plan.

Does anyone know a setting to try on the ASUS (or the iMac)???

As it turns out the use of an HDMI to USB-C cable is NOT the answer for this monitor. Tech support offered some troubleshooting tips that included a reference to a DisplayPort cable. I decided to buy a DP cable from Amazon (for easy returns if it didn't help) and discovered that it works perfectly with a DP cable. No need to make ANY Energy Savings changes or let the display go to sleep on its own.

Greetings, jxwinks!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you have issues using an external monitor with your iMac. Check out this article to Get help with video issues on external displays connected to your Mac. This article will give you steps you can take for issues using an external monitor.

Use Command+Control+Q, which won’t sleep the mini or the displays but lock it. Then let the timer turn the display off.

You may ask: isn’t sleeping the displays same as turning off? My answer is, maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. At the moment, my advice is to avoid anything that involves “sleep”. If auto-off doesn’t work you can try CTRL-SHIFT-EJECT.

Good luck!

I just confirmed that another ASUS display has the same issue which indicates these monitors are at fault as I don't have this issue with a different brand of display. I had to mute the monitor as waking the system/monitor produces an awful noise and it takes 30 seconds for the monitor to sync with the Mac. Also my monitor requires me to navigate the monitor's menus in order to change the screen to another computer input. A monitor that requires a user to access and navigate menus to change the screen to another computer input is an absolutely poor design.

Yes the monitor looks nice when it is on, but the other aspects of this monitor are just terrible. At least I know now that the issue affects more than just my monitor (I was hoping another model would be different).

I apologize. When I wrote my original question I thought my use of the Hot Corner was putting the computer to sleep, but it clearly states "Put Display to Sleep".

The issue still exists, however.

When I "wake" the display in the morning, the 2nd Monitor (ASUS) wakes too but does not see a signal from the Mac. At this point I have been turning the ASUS completely off at night and turning it on at the same time I wake my Mac Display. By the time the ASUS boots, it sees a signal from the Mac.

I really want to stop turning off the ASUS at night and just let the Display Sleep and wake together.

Thank you.

Please note that my ASUS is a 2nd monitor for my 27" iMac as I keep my mail and calendar open on it while doing all my other work on the big screen.

I double checked the Prevent display from going to sleep setting and also confirmed that I am only putting the Display to Sleep with the use of that Hot Corner.

I've tried ASUS Support, but that failed. I was hoping to find something on Google from another person using the ASUS as a 2nd monitor, but I did not find a link in any search. This Apple Support Community was my last hope.

Sorry you feel this way.

I happen to think this is a great monitor with a single flaw. The quality of what I see on the screen is terrific with many options for even greater clarity than I'm currently using.

I'm not even certain that the flaw is with the monitor as it could be an iMac issue as Apple likes you to use their technology, not someone else's.

While I certainly agree with you that using the menu's is not acceptable, I really like the quality of the monitor.

I've tried several options described elsewhere on this page, but it looks like I'm going to have to go back to just shutting it down at night when I put the Mac to sleep. It always works when I turn it back on in the morning.
