Hey Siri & Dictation Not Working iPhone Xs Max iOS 14.6

Since updating to iOS 14.5.1 and 14.6 on my iPhone Xs Max, Hey Siri stopped working. I have followed all the troubleshooting guides. I've tried disabling then re-enabling Hey Siri but on step one, it never hears my voice and I receive "Siri didn't quite get that." I also tested dictation in the notes and messages apps and there is a significant delay before it starts to recognize some of the words. However, people on phone calls, ms teams calls, facetime calls, all hear me perfectly which rules out an IC chip issue I believe. I can make voice memos perfectly. Even stranger is that I can use the Google Translate app and it recognizes my voice and transcribes it perfectly. It truly seems isolated to Hey Siri and the core iOS dictation services.

Steps followed:

  • disable/enable hey siri
  • disable/enable dictation
  • deleted dictation history
  • reset network settings
  • conducted multiple hard resets
  • reset keyboard dictionary
  • changed voices in siri
  • ensured location services are on and using precise location for siri
  • ensured sound recognition is off
  • disabling bluetooth
  • using only wifi
  • using only cellular data

And for context, I have an iPad Pro 3rd gen on iOS 14.6 with practically all the same apps and configuration and it is working perfectly for Siri and dictation.

Greetings, districtsoul.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. Hey Siri is a helpful feature, so we can understandable why you’d want a resolution.

It sounds like you’ve worked through these steps: If "Hey Siri" isn't working on your iPhone or iPad

Next, you should confirm if Hey Siri is available in your region: iOS and iPadOS - Feature Availability - Apple

If you’ve worked through those steps and confirmed availability, consider providing more details.

Sincerely.

Hello and thank you for the reply.

Next, you should confirm if Hey Siri is available in your region: iOS and iPadOS - Feature Availability - Apple

For your first question, yes, it is available in my region. In fact Siri worked on this exact device for the past 22 months.

    • Does Hey Siri work on other devices?

As I said in my description of the problem, Siri does work on other devices, specifically my iPad Pro 3rd gen on iOS 14.6 with practically all the same apps and configuration.

I cannot invoke Siri now because I cannot set it up on my iPhone once I disabled it. When I try to enable it, it will not record/"hear" my voice when I say "Hey Siri."

    • Has Hey Siri ever worked in the past?

As mentioned earlier, yes it worked for 22 months prior to now.
