I don't have a dropdown option on the Selection Tool in Preview. I can only make a square selection but I need to make an elliptical selection. I've used this before but it just isn't there now and I can't find a way to add it. I'm running Preview 11.0 on Big Sur 11.4 on a 2020 M1 Macbook Air.

The alternative selection tools are only available with image files, not PDFs.

Make sure you click on the downward arrow.
I would click on the downward arrow if it was there but it is not. This is the problem, no dropdown on the selection icon. You can click it and you get square selection only.
The selection tool is second icon from the left - you can see there is no dropdown arrow

Here's a screenshot of what I see. Selection tool is second icon from the left on the markup toolbar. No dropdown arrow, only option is to click the icon for a square selection.
