iPad pro 12.9 images distorted connected to Vankyo V630 Projector

I have an iPad Pro 12.9 purchased in 2019. I just purchased a Vankyo projector V630 to display my drawn Procreate images on a larger canvas so I can trace them to a larger conventional medium, however, when I connect the iPad to the projector via USB-C to HDMI cable, the images are squished/distorted from top to bottom. For testing purposes, I also connected my 2016 MacBook Pro to the projector via HDMI, and the same images appear fine with no distortion. Really need to use my iPad Pro with this projector because it is much easier to use image wise than the MacBook Pro. This is obviously not a manual setup issue with the projector since the images appear fine with the MacBook Pro. Please help. Thanks.

Hello lilgeneral007,

We're glad you thought to ask Apple Support Communities about the issue you're having with your images when connecting a projector to your iPad. Great idea testing with a different device. That helps to narrow it down. Take a look at the "Get help" section to see if those steps help to resolve this: About Apple Digital AV Adapters for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If the behavior continues, let us know more:

  • Does this happen with all apps you view images in?
  • Have you checked the user manual for the projector for possible settings adjustments?

The more details you can provide the better.

Take care.

Yes, the projector's squished distortion is consistent in other apps on the iPad.

The user manual is very sparse and lacks detailed troubleshooting. I did contact Vankyo as well with this issue, and I'm waiting to hear back from them. (The aspect ratio settings on the projector do not solve this issue)

The cord I bought to display iPad images on the projector is an "Insignia" USB-C to HDMI Cable that works with MacBook & iPad Pro.

The fine print on the back of the cord box states that the USB-C port must support "DP Alt Mode" for the adapter to work properly. I do not know what that means, but I assume if the iPad didn't support this mode then it wouldn't display through the projector at all.

When the image appears correctly using the MacBook Pro, the cord is an HDMI to an HDMI.

Thanks
