SOLVED! Family Sharing - transfer child - missing notifications

I was trying to transfer my under 13 year old kid from the Family Sharing account under my Apple ID to my wife's Apple ID.

Went through the procedure on the following page - 'Move a child to another group using Family Sharing'

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201080#request

When my wife sent the invite to my kid, I was suppose get a notification to allow the transfer but nothing happened - no notification as mentioned in the support article. After checking these forums and not finding an answer, I contacted Apple support via chat and got the solution outlined below.

  1. Delete/Remove any existing invitation to your child to join the new family sharing group on the target organizer's device.
  2. From the target organizer's device, send the invite again but this time after you select 'Add Member' -> 'Invite People', select the 'Invite in Person' option.
  3. Type in your kid's Apple ID and password, and hit Next.
  4. You will get a notification in YOUR email titled 'Allow [Kid Name] to leave your family and join [Target Name] family. Click on View Request.
  5. This should open up the System Preferences in your device that will allow you to authorize your kid to join the target organizer's Family sharing.

TIP: You have to be in the Mail app in MacOS or iOS. I use my Gmail for my AppleID and the 'Allow..' message was sent to my Gmail which I access through the Gmail app. When I tried to click on 'View Request', I got a message that said use the Mail app. I had to load my Gmail into the Mail app and then click 'View Request' in the email for it to open up the System Preferences.
