MacBook Pro 1 - HP Laserjet Pro MFP283 few drivers

I am having an extremely difficult time printing or scanning to my HP Multifunction Printer/scanner. The same network (home office) is used for both my MacBook Pro 13'' (2021)M1 and my HP Printer(2021).....Either ''offline'' or it searches for the printer? I have downloaded the drivers from the HP.Com website. Somehow my Windows10 PC...works very well? Please Help

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.4

Thanks, Kevin.

The only software on the HP support site is HP Smart for setup and support, and there is a reference to AirPrint.

Since it is an AirPrint model, it should work without having to install any drivers. However, we cannot rule out that the printer firmware needs an update, but I assume that you have checked this.

No change when you tried the procedure mentioned in my first post?

This model has Ethernet as well. Any change if you (temporarily) connect the printer via Ethernet to a LAN port of the router? AirPrint should work then, too.

Also, for a test, any change when printing from an iPhone/iPad?

The HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw can handle/emulate a number of print languages.

If absolutely necessary (for tests without AirPrint), it should be possible to use generic PostScript or PCL drivers, or even drivers for similar HP printers.

Hi,

Please check the exact printer model. Any suffix?

  • HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw
  • HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdn
  • HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw

The above models are mentioned in About AirPrint - Apple Support as printers supporting the driverless AirPrint technology. An AirPrint-enabled printer does not require drivers from the printer manufacturer to be installed. The printer and the computer must be connected to the same network (subnet).

How is your printer connected (wirelessly, or wired to one of the LAN ports of a Wi-Fi router)?

If necessary, you may want to try the following procedure: Power off the router, the printer, the computer, and all other computers and devices. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the computer. Finally. power on all other computers and devices. Any change?

Hi Kevin,

Thank you. I noticed that you had posted while I was editing my message. OK, so then it is an AirPrint model (and no drivers should be needed). I assume that AirPrint and BonJour/mDNS have been enabled on the printer, and that the router will allow these. Also, please check whether there could a problem related to dual-band operation (2.4 and 5 GHz).

Hi Jan,

I dont have an ethernet connection ''close by''....usb is also out of the question. I did send just one AirPrint doc from my iPhone 8...and it works fine. I have worked through all the driver links you have sent (much appreciated)....it all seems OK now. Hopefully it remains in tact comes tomorrow morning when work week begins...Thx soooo very much for the extremely helpful advice
