Typing a message

I have an IPhone 12 Pro, and today for some reason when I go to write a text, the keyboard appears at the left hand side of my phone. It is impossible to type and see the screen as you have to turn the phone sideways. Has anyone else have this problem when typing a text message? Or can someone tell me how to fix it?
