Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities Badger_2021,

Thank you for contacting us regarding your messages on the Mac. You have come to the right place and we are happy to assist you.  If we understand correctly, your received messages are in alphabetical order by sender.  We can understand why you’d reach out for a solution. To start, is the Mac running the most current operating system? Are messages stored in the cloud? Have you tried signing out, signing back into the Message App? Is your Apple ID & phone number listed as ways to contact you? Have the messages ever listed correctly? If you use an iPhone, are the messages listed correctly there?

If you can get back to us with a few more specifics, we will be able to better find a resolution for you.

Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities.

Best regards.
