My 12-year-old son- do either find my son or my son’s phone when he loses it often.
A lot of times it’s trying to send a text with a code to allow me to get into the iCloud account..
Obviously that’s not gonna work if I don’t know where the phone is

Also whether or not he is in your Family Sharing group, you can use an internet browser and log into www.icloud.com/find without being asked for a two-factor code. You can also log into www.icloud.com (without the /find) and ignore the two-factor code request and click the Quick Access to Find My icon instead.
