  • I think my daughter has spilled something onto my MacBook Air 2020 a couple of weeks back.. It must have been very little spillage as everything still works.. Its just that the return key, shift & another key are just a bit crunchy.. Still work but a bit crunchy. I asked apple how much for repair & they quoted £850.00 !!!!!!!!!!!! are they mad !! anybody know if it can be repaired & not for the price of another MacBook, thanks

Apple does not do "small" repairs. An Apple repair is an all or nothing strategy and in the case of any key issues it requires replacing the entire Top Case Assembly (also includes Keyboard, Trackpad, Speakers, Battery, and Touchbar) so the part is really expensive. Accidental damage greatly increases the price of an already expensive part.

If the issue only affects a couple of keys, then perhaps an Apple Authorized Service Provider will remove the key caps and scissor mechanism and clean them of the liquid residue which is causing them to stick. I do this with our organization's laptops, but the Apple key caps and scissor mechanisms are very fragile and easily damaged.

Don't be surprised if a month from now the laptop begins to have other issues. It can sometimes take time for the liquid damage to corrode the electronics enough to cause a noticeable failure.
