Stuck on “checking for update”

So got my grandmas Apple Watch and when I factory reset it and went to the watch app I tried to pair and update it but it’s stack on checking for update

What if my watch will not update and says “Preparing” where update is but it’s been like that for more than 12 hours. Apple Watch Update Hi! I recently got an apple watch from my friend that he was using. Very exciting and all untill I tried to pair it with my iPhone. When I pair it it says it's in need of an update and when I press "Update" It says "Could Not Install Update" It does not give me a reason and I pressed "Try Again" a hundred times. The other option it gives it to start over. I tried that a couple of times too. I just can't get it to work. I reinstalled the watch app. Tried powering on and off. Resetted Network Settings. Can someone please help?
