I have an iPad Pro bought in the UK with a magic keyboard bought in Portugal. The problem is some of the characters are wrongly mapped. I have read some forums and changed the hardware keyboard language to Portuguese but that doesn’t work in fact I can change it to any language and nothing changes.
example it prints ^ instead of & and * instead of (. Can anyone please help?

It sounds like the Hardware keyboard is not actually set to Portuguese. That would make Shift 6 print & and Shift 8 print (. If that is what you want , try doing it again. Go to settings > general > keyboard > hardware keyboard. Tap over at the right edge. Make sure that Portuguese is always checked (and not English or Automatic).

Thanks, very useful to know that it causes this problem! 3rd party keyboards normally cannot use a hardware keyboard at all.
Yes I’m not sure how it interfered but once I deleted it the a magic keyboard worked perfectly. I just deleted gboard from my list of keyboards. Thanks for taking the time to try to help, it’s really appreciated.
Thanks on the left is “English UK” and on the right “Portuguese” but the characters just do not change whatever language I select. I just want the characters on the keyboard so I don’t have to remember where they really are. Do you by any chance have any other ideas?
