How do I un-exclude my WD Passport Ultra for Mac in Time Machine? The (-) sign is grayed out so I can't delete it. Thank you.

I have a MacBook Pro with the M1 chip. Recently purchased a WD My Passport Ultra for Mac. I keep getting an error message when I try to backup my computer. The new devise is grayed out and shows up in the excluded box. The (-) sign is grayed out so I can't remove it. Any assistance you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

With the " WD My Passport Ultra : directly connected to computer >> Open " Disk Utilities " residing in the " Other Folder " of Launchpad.

In Disk Utilities open >> View >> View ALL attached Drives. On left side look for the Upper Most name " WD My Passport Ultra ". That is the drive to format. With it chosen >> one right choose Erase and slit box below and choose APFS and again below that choose GUID Partition Map. Now choose Erase. It will dismount the drive and reformat as previously chosen and remount the drive. Exit Disk Utilities and done.
