The email address used as my apple id login on my iphone does not exist anymore, so I cannot receive a verification code to change it. How do i fix this?

2 problems...I used a work email as my apple ID and no longer have that email address. How do I change my apple ID so I can receive important messages? Also, my husband used our joint email account for his apple ID and is now getting "Can't verify email" messages when he tried to register his ipod and turn on 2-factor authentication. These are huge problems for us. Please help!
