direct transfer not working

iPhone 8+ to 12 stuck in direct data transfer via wireless with message "about 2 min" for like 6 hours now. Activation of new phone has been validated by carrier. All of visible apps and all other information including pictures appear to be in place on iPhone12 but unable to complete transfer process which I was told by carrier rep is preventing the use of fundamental phone functions like placing or receiving a phone call. While it is Ok to fail, it is not acceptable to fail with no user feedback like how much data is actually left to send or update bar with detailed %...C'mon Apple.

iPhone to iPhone, there are three ways,

  1. Quick Transfer --> Use QuickStart to transfer data to a new iPhone, iPad or iPod ...
  2. Restore from iCloud Backup --> Restore or set up your device from an iCloud backup - Apple ...
  3. Restore from iTunes backup --> Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in iTunes on PC ...

Thanks. As it turns out, my solution was to turn off both phones. I think Apple should spend a little energy to understand why this direct transfer method fails at such a high rate based on what I see as a limited samples on the support forums. I don’t accept any of the suggestions that I either had too much data to transfer or weak WiFi as neither was true in my case. One thing I would certainly do if I were Apple is to first enable voice capability on the newly activated phone so the user can make a call for support. Currently, neither phone can support the fundamental function of a phone(how retarded!) until the transfer is complete. The carrier’s should be outraged. Users certainly are since most of us only have one phone at home anymore and are left borrowing a phone from somebody else to get support. Inexcusable Apple!
