Using iTunes to Syncing Apple Calender on IOS iOS 14.4.2 to Outlook 13

I use recurring calendar events to manage appointments in the Standard IOS calendar.

When I complete an appointment, I record a summary in my notes and save for just this event.

I then use these notes to issue to stakeholders on different applications and for tax purposes.

When in July 2020, I synced my iPhone to Outlook 2013 using iTunes, all my individually saved events including the calendar notes were replaced with the original recurring events including all notes.

A years worth of data was lost.

This functionality had not caused any problems in the past.

how can I mitigate against loss of original data?

how can I ensure the iPhone is the master device in the sync?

How I first ensure I have a complete and accessible copy of all data in a backup.

I am very nervous about repeating this issue.

There are basically three ways you can sync.

  1. Mobile to Server. (Transfer changes from Mobile to the Server)
  2. Server to Mobile (Transfer changes from Server to the Mobile)
  3. Both ways (Transfer and Add/Delete changes both ways and keep both ends uptodate)
