Losing Sound From Apple TV 4K

Just installed Samsung 4K TV, Bose Soundbar (optical) and Apple TV 4K (using 4K HDMI) in new home. While watching streaming apps on ATV4K the sound cuts out for 3-4 minutes and then comes back. It's more prevalent on Peacock app, but happens with all of them. This is happening on another system (exact same set up) on the patio as well. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

I am experiencing the same issue which everyone else has described. AppleTV 4K attached to 2021 Samsung Q80 with Samsung Sound Bar and sound drops out when viewing.

I contacted Apple Support today and they informed me that this is a known issue and Apple Engineers are working on the problem and it will be rectified in a future software update.

The temporary workaround (as has been suggested earlier) is to Change Audio Format to Digital 5.1 on the AppleTV 4K.

I tried this solution, and my sound drop out issues have been resolved. I guess it is just a matter of waiting for the fix to be implemented.

I had Apple Support on the support phone. They are better than Samsung, they find a workaround.

Change your Samsung TV from SoundBar sound source to Television Speaker. After, come back to your SoundBar as preffered sound source. Normally, it works again, sound problem solved.

The full integration of Apple TV 4K not...

The support from Apple was just the best perfect support for that point. They recommended me to contact Samsung Support to have the full correction with Firmware like LG for same kind of issue. It was just a nightmare support... It's like the support of a low cost mark... Never experienced a so poor support like the Samsung Support Customer Experience. I share my experience with Samsung Management.

I'm not sure we will receive a correction from Samsung in the coming days... They say me always Samsung & Apple are not friends... Commercially perfect 👍

Same issue here as everyone described. It was very sporadic for me. The sound would only cut out when the show first started (all apps Netflix/hbo/Disney etc) so if I restarted the show a few times the sound would come back and stay on. I changed the hdmi cable and did all the restarts which didn’t fix it. Changing to 16bit didn’t fix it either.

I changed the Apple TV audio setting format to ”off” and to Dolby. It seems to work as of right now so hopefully that will fix it.

I have the same problem with a similar setup: Samsung Q80t, Apple TV 4K, Sonos Arc soundbar. For months I believed that the problem was with the Arc, but now realized that it’s the Apple TV. If I watch the same program using the apps installed on the Samsung TV, there’s no problem. If watching through the apps on the Apple TV, voices are out of sync with video and sound briefly drips about every 15 minutes or so. Seems to be associated with Dolby Atmos content. Switching to Stereo might work, but then you don’t get 5.1 or Atmos surround sound. So not a viable solution.

My system: Apple TV 4K connected by HDMI to HDMI of Samsung Q80T, and Q80T HDMI eARC out to Sonos Arc HDMI. For a long time I was blaming the Sonos (lots or threads about sound dropouts). But then realized that cutting out the Apple TV and playing content through apps on the Samsung TV solved the problem with sacrificing audio or video quality (i.e., no compromise work-arounds like switching to stereo instead of Atmos sound). Also, for me at least, the problem was limited to Dolby Atmos content: sound drops for a second or two every 12 to 15 minutes or so. Weird, unsolved problem that appears to be connected somehow with passing signal through the Apple TV. Maybe just a perfect storm of the combination of Apple TV streaming device, Samsung TV and Sonos Arc sound bar. But whatever: at the price point for each of these devices, I think it’s fair of me to expect them to work well together.

Samsung TV QN90A linked via HDMI to Apple TV 4K, Samsung TV to Bose 900 soundbar via e-arc HDMI. Having the same sound cuts as everybody described here. Tried all suggested solutions since the beginning of the thread (cables, firmware updates, 16 bits, etc). The only workaround is to downgrade the sound quality to stereo. At this point, tired of the nonsense. So, I will be returning the Apple TV back to Best Buy as soon as my either Roku or Fire device arrives home. What a shame as I really liked the apple UI and overall feeling.

Hello CTLoadie,

We understand that you have some trouble with your audio stopping intermittently that involved your Apple TV. We'd recommend reviewing the "adjust other audio settings" on the following article: Adjust video and audio settings on Apple TV

I have a Denon AVR 6700h connected to an LG cx9 and an apple tv4k and have the same audio dropouts and distorted audio when listening to Dolby Atmos content so it’s not just. a problem with Samsung TVs. I didn’t have any audio issues with a Roku connected identically, so it’s clearly the Apple TV 4K that’s causing this. Also same content is perfect when using the TV’s built in apple app.
