You could also try, if you can pass the photos to Indesign from Photos instead of browsing the library with the Media Browser in Indesign.
There are two ways to pass photos from Photos to an external editor- I don't use Indesign, but you could give it a try:
How to use "External Editors". After installing external editors, launch Photos, then select the image to be edited, click "edit" then the (...) to call a photo editing extension. Select "External Editors" or "Manage" to add it, if External Editors is not yet in the list. Now you can select a different file format.

Ok - your simplest method is probably to export the images to a folder. I use a temporary "photo export" folder on my desktop.
In photos, go to the images you want to send to Indesign, select them, and from the file menu file>export. (If you want to add multiple images from different times in your photos timeline, it might be easier to drag them to an album first, then you can go to the album and select them all in one step).
Choose jpg, best quality, and full size, click export and choose the folder to put them in. In Indesign you can then browse to the folder instead of the photos app to add the images.
Once you've added the images, you can if you wish, delete them from the temporary folder.
PS - I assume these HEIC images are from your phone. You can if you wish change the format of the images captured by your phone to jpg (For the future). In your phone settings, go to Camera>formats, and then check "most compatible" instead of "high efficiency". If you do this though, each picture and video will take up around double the space in your storage.
Hi
A bit more info will help people to help you better:
Do you really mean iPhoto (discontinued some years ago) or Photos, which replaced it.
How are you importing from photos/iPhoto to indesign?
You mention file format - what are the format of the files you are talking about?
What version of MacOS do you have?
Is your Indesign up to date?
Thank you Tony. I am on the most current version of Mac OS and InDesign. I do mean Photos. The file format that my photos seem to be in is Heic.- which indesign doesn’t seem to recognize. If necessary I can bring the photos into photoshop and convert them. But if there’s a way to have the photos saved in a format that is recognizable by indesign I would prefer that.
That sounds like a good work around. I will give it a g, Thanks!!
Welcome.
