Restoring Notes on MacOS with NoteStore.sqlite

Recently I had to move to a new laptop. I have a back up of the Notes from the previous laptop (NoteStore.sqlite, NoteStore.sqlite-shm and NoteStore.sqlite-wal). Both laptops are in macOS Catalina. I am trying to restore my previous Notes by replacing the above files in my "~/Library/Group Containers/group.com.apple.notes" directory. However when I try to reopen Notes after replacing the above files, the files get moved to a 'Backups' directory and Notes gets opened with no previous notes.

I would really appreciate if someone can help me to restore my previous notes.

Thanks

Welcome c_gun,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, you'd like to transfer your Notes from one Mac to another.

If you were using iCloud, you could simply sign in to your iCloud account and check 'Notes' to sync them to your new Mac: Set up iCloud on your Mac

In case it's relevant: Delete and recover notes on iCloud.com

Also, see: Add or remove accounts in Notes on Mac

Hoping this helps out, take care!
