renaming bluetooth device in Big Sur

I can't rename a bluetooth device using BigSur 11.2.3 on MacBook pro. I can rename the same device on my iPhone(6). So why not on my Mac? The problem is that i have identical stereo systems in two different locations, so I'm always trying to pair with the wrong one, as the name appears identical in the bluetooth menu. when I click on the device, i only get the option to remove it or cancel.
