No audio or Fn-Keys despite Boot Camp's driver installation

Hello dear Apple Community,

today I would like to ask you for help with my Boot Camp's driver installation.

A bit of background information:

my iMac 2017 uses a Fusion Drive (HD + SDD) which works fine running MacOS. I have a Windows Boot Camp installation which also works fine, except for the fact that it runs solely on the HD and it is... well, slow. For this reason, I got an external, USB 3.2 SDD which I connect using the Thunderbolt 3 port. I installed Windows on this external SDD and can boot from it without issues. Load times are good.

Now to the problem:

Using Bootcamp in MacOS (completely up-to-date), I downloaded the drivers for Windows (Boot Camp > Action > Download Windows Support Software) to a USB-Stick. I then booted into Windows and ran the "setup.exe", which finished successfully. After restarting the computer, I noticed that things aren't as I expected:

  • I have no audio through the built in speakers
  • the Boot Camp Control Panel is missing the tab "Keyboard" to configure the Fn keys, so I cannot configure how I want to use them
  • I cannot regulate volume or brightness with the Magic Keyboard (see previous point)

These are, for me, typical symptoms that something is wrong with the drivers that Boot Camp should have installed.

I have tried running "setup.exe" several times, I downloading the Windows Support Software using Bootcamp in MacOS again, I have checked for updates (both in MacOS and in Windows, including "Apple Software Update")... But all to no avail.

Do you have an idea what could be causing the issue and how to tackle it?

Thanks a lot in advance for your support!

The Cirrus logic is the correct Audio device as shown in the HDD (internal) installation. The Cirrus device can support multi-channel Analog audio, depending on connection.

The HID keyboard can be checked by looking at the PID/VID of each device under Keyboards. The same keyboard can also show up more than once, like the newer Magic Keyboards which support BT as well as a USB-to-Lightning connection.

On the SSD, you can check the PID/VID of the unknown devices.

This is expected.

Hello Loner T,

thank you so much for the fantastic advice!

I first tried installing the drivers for any of the devices unter "Audio inputs and outputs" (labeled as "High Definition Audio Device").

I chose the *.inf file, as the prompt asked me for:

But then windows countered with the following message:

I downloaded new drivers from Cirrus' website (for 64-bit systems) but Windows showed the same message.

I then tried with the device unter "Sound, video and game controllers" and this time it worked! The device is now beeing shown properly in the app and the speakers and microphone work. Thank you so much!

Regarding the Keyboard and Fn keys: I saw that the "Bluetooh USB Host Controller" under "Other devices" seems to have the same VID/PID as one of the HID Keyboards. Did I understand your message above properly and this device might be the missing device for the Keyboard?

I am going to boot into my internal HDD to check which driver the keyboards are using - maybe I can also update my HID keyboards driver with the one from Boot Camp.

By the way, the WindowsSupport folder that Boot Camp created has 2 sets drivers. These are the drivers available:

Do you have a suggestion which one I could/should use for the remaining devices?

Let me try that again, and if it works, maybe someone can delete the previous post:

These are the drivers under the folder "Apple":

Under Drivers/Broadcom there is a folder BroadcomBluetooth. But using that driver for "Bluetooth USB Host Controller" failed with the message above.

Do you have a suggestion which one I could/should use for the remaining devices?
