The frame rate doesn't matter. That's assigned to all stills, the highest frame rate used in projects.
Why is the file that large? Is there any reason for that in a video project? What's the project resolution you want to use? That's a lot of processing to scale that down to a useable video size.

I can't replicate your issue.
Are you just saving the png file? Try removing the background and then export the file as a .png with alpha checked:
MtD
I removed the background using preview app. Then saved the png file. Then imported it to fcp. It imports and plays ok along with the video it is overlayed over. I just cant export (get “shared failed” message) it (even if its by itself on its own timeline. Regular pngs dont seem to have this issue.
Tried exporting png with alpha checked. Still no success. The file size is 7 mb and when I try importing it to a new project it defaults to 4k video settings as opposed to a test screenshot which defaults to hd video settings and I have no issues with the screenshot png file. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Ok solved. Thank you. I downscaled the png file using affinity photo to about 1/3rd the previous size and it exports fine now (also frame rate now shows 24p on the new downscaled file which matches the project).
You're right. It won't export. It can't create the first frame.
How was the background removed? Was it done in FCP? Was it done pride of FCP? Before the file was imported or afterwards?
What’s the resolution of the image, horizontal and vertical dimensions?
Dimensions of the png are 17000 x 22000 (yes 3 zeros). Also I noticed the frame rate says 60p on it (not sure why it has a frame rate as its just a still image) and the project is set to 24p.
The video and timeline are 6k.
Like 5760x2880? Or something else? FCP doesn't use 6K, so perhaps it's a custom size. Why do you need an image that large in a video project?
