Red light

Hey. There is a small red light in the top of my iPhone that is lightning often. I can’t figure out which app that’s turning it on, if it is an app? It often lights red before I open it up with my Face ID. Can you maybe help me figure out why the red light is there? I read that it has something to do with the microphone?
