Health counts steps when cycling

Hello!

This question seems to been around here since something lika 2014 but I can't find a solution. When I register a bike ride in the Health app the app also registers steps and walking distance at the same time giving wrong results/statistics/etc.

I use Komoot to register the bike ride and it registers correctly without a problem. But since I have my iPhone in my pocket and it bounces around it thinks I'm out walking too.

Is there some way to avoid this doubling of data in the Heath app?

iPhone 12, iOS 14

Hello Teddy_B,

Thanks for taking the time to try to give me an answer. I did know about giving one source priority over another but on my mobile, if there is no data from source 1 (Komoot), then it takes it from source 2 (iPhone).

I think it's easier if I show a picture:

This is from yesterday when I took a ride on my bike. I reset all data to zero before the ride. The recorded ride in Komoot is correct and shown as 15,5k. But then Health also thinks that I walked 5,1k at the same time (and counted steps). Komoot is priority on both biking and walking but hasn't registered any walking since it registered a bike ride, leaving the walking to zero. But for some reason the iPhone then publish it's own data, even if it's within the same time frame I did something else.

This is what I would like to avoid, to have two things registered at the same time. If Komoot registers a bike ride I want that to be published and walking and steps removed for the same period of time. Is it possible?

Hi Jonas_74,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like you would like your iPhone to not register steps and walking distance at the same time as the Komoot app and we’re happy to help!

“The Health app takes similar data from different sources, like steps recorded from your iPhone and activity from your Apple Watch, and organizes it based on where it comes from. By default, Health prioritizes data in this order:

  1. Health data that you enter manually.
  2. Data from your iPhone, iPod touch, and Apple Watch.
  3. Data from apps and Bluetooth devices.

When you add a new data source, it appears above all other apps and devices that contribute data in Health. You can change the order of sources at any time. ”

For additional information check out the Apple Support articles below:

Have a nice day.
