How can I activate start sound in Mojave

Try an Upgrade/Restore:

One other thought (and I don't know if it would work), might be to upgrade past Mojave, and then restore to Mojave. All of this would be performed via the following.

  1. Backup: your Mac
  2. Upgrade: to Catalina or Big Sur.
  3. Restore: from the backup in step 1

Hello, curiousness.


In Catalina you can use these Terminal commands.

I don't know if they work in Mojave.


To enable the startup chime start Terminal and enter:

sudo nvram StartupMute=%00

You will be asked to enter your admin password. The password will not display onscreen.


To disable the startup chime start Terminal and enter:

sudo nvram StartupMute=%01

You will be asked to enter your admin password. The password will not display onscreen.
