can’t print on laser printers after upgrading one iMac to Big Sur from Catalina

Just updated one iMac on my home network to Big Sur 11.4 from 10.15.7

Now this computer will not print to either Lexmark laser printers (one direct connection and one on network connected to other iMac). Get an error message in the print document dialog that states “‘filter’ failed, 1 page”.

Can print to both Epson ink jets (one direct connect and one on network) from both iMacs.

The second Mac is still running Catalina 10.15.7 This iMac can’t print to the iMac’s laser with the new OS and gets the same “failed” message. (there are Apple issues why the second iMac can not be upgraded to new OS for now).

Have restarted both computer, laser printers, deleted all printers, then reinstalled all printers with no apparent issue on both computers.

If was a laser driver issue, the iMac on Catalina should still be able to print on the other laser. Since the lasers and inkjets are all connected to the shared network, the network is apparently functioning.

The laser printers indicate in the printer selection window that they are using Bonjour
