iPhone Gmail Won't Let Me Sign In

Without changing anything, Gmail now wants me to sign in on iPhone, yet nothing happens when I click on the "sign in" button, it won't let me do anything. Gmail is still working fine on laptop. I've deleted and reinstsalled the Gmail app on iPhone 2x now to try to resolve, to no avail. Also, went to Settings>Name>iCloud>Mail and it is in on position as suggested in forum. I've also checked Google and Gmail forums, others with same issue but no resolution.
