The glass on the front and back of this phone is pretty beat up. Can i have my phone fixed or repaired. Without him being present necessarily because the Applecare+ is in his name? Also if this route won’t satisfy my curiousity I can just waste more time and create an appointment in Union square SF. I work literally one block away.

Unless your friend revoked the AppleCare + plan (i.e. they were paying monthly) the plan is tied to the device. Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple Beat up doesn't really tell us anything and they won't replace the front screen for cosmetic scratches. If the back screen is cracked they replace the entire device.

Since you claim the Apple Store is near you, why don't you just make a Genius Bar appointment and find out?

The back screen is very damaged. The AppleCare+ for the phone was paid in full I guess previously when he originally purchased the phone. It expires mid October I guess. So I can get phone fixed then?
Why not get it replaced now?
And also am I going to have to pay any money since the back screen is messed up the whole phone will be replaced? What is the price for that?
