how to remove previous network connection after upgrading to new modem

Recently changed out older modem to newer one (xfinity Gateway) at suggestion of internet provider (Comcast). However, my MBP continues to revert to older network connection instead of newer network. I must continually select the new connection. How can I remove the older network from being available as a default connection?
