Apple pay transaction identification

My receipt for apple pods shows the last four numbers of the credit card used for the purchase, however the four numbers are different than the last four numbers of my actual card. Dies apply pay use a different purchase reference?

Apple Pay and Vendors storing card numbers? I just tried to use Apple Pay to purchase a shirt at Filson in Seattle. The transaction could not go through because the card number's last four digits are for a card that was compromised many months ago AND is has not been one of the cards available in my Apple Wallet for as many months. I checked to see which cards are in my Wallet and the card number that came up when I clicked on Apple Pay to check out was not there. So how is it that Filson or any online retailer can think my Wallet contains a card that is not there? It has been literally months since the change was made. I can only conclude they are harvesting numbers and storing them to maybe avoid paying Apple Pay, or what, I don't know. Am I wrong about this? Do I misunderstand how the system is supposed to work?

My devices account info Is there a card number that my Apple Pay is linked to outside of my own personal accounts? Like, does it already come with a account number?
