iPhone and Ipad MAIL

Suddenly I cannot send an email to myself from iPhone or Ipad. It is rejected with this message:

Remote Server returned '550 5.7.520 Message blocked because it contains content identified as spam. AS(4810)'

Even when I send an email with NO CONTENT, with just the word “Test” in subject line. I’ve tried everything, deleted mail account, re enter it. Checked all mail settings. Weird: it does receive the email if WiFi is turned off and using cellular data, but will not work if WiFi is on? I changed router, didn’t help. Everything was working fine. Nothing has been changed. Help? Thanks!

iPhone SE, iOS 14

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities cb1946,

We see that you’re unable to receive mail on your iPhone and iPad. We understand wanting to have this issue resolved, and we’d like to help.

We see that you came to us from the article titled “If you can’t send email on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch". If you’ve been through those steps and the issue remains, we’d like to ask a few more questions to help with isolating this issue.

  • Are you able to receive mail if you check your mail from a web browser?

  • Which mail provider are you using? For example, Yahoo, Gmail, Outlook, etc?

  • If you’re using a third-party mail account, and they have an app that you can install, are you able to receive mail through the app?

  • Which version of software are you using on your devices?

Let us know and we'll continue to take a look at this with you.

Have a great day!

Thank you kareng12, I really appreciate your response and help. To clarify, I can receive mail from others (as far as I know!). BUT all of a sudden, I cannot receive mail from myself — My own email address which has always been the same. I’ve NEVER had this issue, using Mail on my iPhone se and on iPad for several years. I get this error message “Remote Server returned '550 5.7.520 Message blocked because it contains content identified as spam. AS(4810)' “ ??? Even with NO content, when I use only the word Test in subject line.

After lots of trouble shooting, I’ve learned this weird situation: Apple MAIL WILL accept email from myself/ my own email address IF WiFi is turned OFF. That is, if I go into Settings and turn off WiFi to use Cellular Data, it accepts my email address and email, using cellular (glad I bought cellular on the iPad!). But when I turn WiFi back on, the problem happens.

Mail Provider: Outlook

I can receive it if I go into the Outlook web browser and send and email to myself from there. It is only on Apple Mail that suddenly won’t accept my own email. I bcc and cc myself a lot, and never had this issue until now.

Software iOS version 14.1 on iphone; iOS 12.2 on iPad. (Previous updates caused issues with my msn email, which is why I’m very nervous about updating when everything is working.

Thank you very much for helping me figure this out! I’m trying think of anything that may have cause this sudden issue.

I am so frustrated. I contacted Microsoft Support and MS says it is an Apple problem, from MS technician:

“Based on the information shared by you, it is evident that issue is not on Microsoft end but on the Apple side. As you are facing this issue when using Apple mail hence, please contact Apple support so that they can help you in this issue.”

Therefore, I’m back to asking (pleading with!) Apple to help me resolve this issue.

Thanks for any/all help!

Hi Kareng12

Here is some new information - does it help us analyze the problem?

I was at a different wifi address awhile ago and when I sent an email to myself on my iPhone it worked fine.

But when I got home to my wifi address, I again have the problem sending email to myself on my iphone and ipad — it is rejected with this spam error message.
