Video8 and Big Sur

I ditched my analog video material years ago but I’m trying to help someone who has a Sony camera and a bunch of Video8 tapes.

Is there a preferred solution that works well to link the camera to my iMac? There are RCA and S-video connections on the camera. I don’t particularly want to spend a fortune but there appear to be cheap and less cheap options, many of which don’t work (apparently) with recent versions of macOS.

Thanks Jan, there are loads of these devices around at differing prices and some explicitly don't work with new macOS variants - so it is helpful to have somewhere to start. The price is at a level where I need to explore the number of tapes my friend has - there are companies that will make the conversion to file, and at a price level that for a small number of tapes might prove less expensive.

I would have knowledge of the intrinsic value of the material was it mine, but not here.

I'll do some more groundwork - thanks for your help.
