Migration assistant stuck

My migration has been stuck saying it has 1 hour 48 minutes to go for about 2 hours now - do I give up?

I'm using Wifi not an ethernet cable as I've since seen suggested

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 11.4

Hey Kdevans,

Thanks for posting your question in Apple Support Communities.

The article you have recently viewed provides some great steps for data migration but these steps may help as well.

If your migration assistance has been such you will first want to check your network connection and that both Macs are plugged into a reliable power source. It usually is best to allow the Macs to go through the transfer process without interrupting in order to prevent damage to your data being transferred. Allow it time to see if it improves. If it does not, try contacting Apple Support using this link: Contact Apple Support.

Best Wishes
