Fan won’t stop running + black screen

Hello all,

I’m currently experiencing several issues with my MacBook Air 13’ and was wondering if anyone had any pointers.

When I opened my Mac, the fan began to run, but the screen was black. No images or sounds at all. When I closed it, the fan still continued to run (it has been running for hours now). On top of that, my power button doesn’t work, so I’m not even sure if it’s on or off, and can’t force a shut down. This has never happened before. I’ve also tried the SMC method and nothing seems to work. Does anyone know what I should do? And should I be worried about the fan running non stop - will it turn off eventually? Thanks so much.

Take the laptop to an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. It is highly unusual that holding the power button or performing an SMC Reset does not power off the laptop, but not impossible. You can try removing the bottom case and disconnecting the battery, but you must be very careful since the battery connector can be a bit difficult to disconnect sometimes. You must also be very careful not to puncture the battery or it could cause a fire. You will likely still need to have Apple or an AASP to resolve the underlying issue.
