AirPods Pro poor connection to Apple Watch

My AirPods Pro seem to connect to Apple Watch and sound comes through for a few seconds then stops. Still appears to be connected and playing but no sound. I have tried forgetting and reconnecting on both watch and phone. Have rebooted watch. AirPods work perfectly with iPhone. Watch works perfectly with Bose bluetooth. It is very frustrating as bought AirPods Pro to use with Watch while walking without need for iPhone. This appears to be a long standing problem as I have seen earlier threads. I just can't believe that Apple has not fixed this.
