I forgot my passcode for my apple watch so I came on here to look for answers. I tried the “hold the side button until you see power off, then press and hold the digital crown until you see reset settings” answer, but when I press the side button til power off appears and then hold the digital crown it just goes back to the lock/charge screen.

I followed the instructions to reset the apple series 1 watch as follows, but and it hangs on the apple logo then goes to the passcode which I enter and can not access settings.
Would love to have some assistance, please.
From a web browser,sign in to iCloud.com with your Apple ID.
Go to Find iPhone.
Click All Devices at the top of the screen.
Click your Apple Watch.
Click Erase [device]. Select Next until the device is erased.
Click Remove from Account.
