1 & only 1 playlist not syncing

Some context ...I am diligent in purchasing any music on my iMac, moving said purchase to desired playlist & then syncing w/ iPhone, iPad &/or Apple TV....this has served me well until recently as 1 particular playlist is not migrating to these devices ...updates/purchases to library/other playlists working as expected but not this 1 particular playlist ...I have renamed it but still not migrating .....Suggestions?

Hello Shawn,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, one specific playlist isn't syncing to your iPhone or iPad. We'll do our best to assist.

Are you an Apple Music or iTunes Match member? If so, these playlists should all sync without you having to physically sync/transfer them. As long as they are signed in using the same Apple ID, as the membership: Turn on Sync Library with Apple Music and Subscribe to iTunes Match

With that said, if your not a member of the above, then we'd confirm you have enough space to sync the playlist: How to check the storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Should the issue persist, then we'd like to know where the playlist originated? Was it an Apple curated playlist or did you create it?

Hoping this helps out, take care!

Hey SMB,

Good to know. If you aren't sure which accounts are currently signed in, we can help out with that.

On your iPhone XS, go to Settings at the top of this, you should see the current Apple ID signed in. If you need to switch accounts, you can select Media & Purchases to Sign Out. Then sign in with the correct Apple ID.

Please note: If you sign out of your Apple ID on your iPhone to switch to another, your purchases/downloads will be removed from the device (that were previously purchased with that account).

On the Mac, go to the Music app, then the Account menu in the menu bar. You should see the account signed in at the top, probably dimmed out (since you're signed in). You want this Apple ID to show up on the iPhone, if it's not already set up this way.

Hoping that does the trick, cheers!

Thanks for the response .....I do subscribe to Apple Music & the option to sync appears & turned on

Like (& frustratingly so) I have 2 Apple ID's w/ the 2nd generated when I signed up for iCloud (why Apple did that is beyond me)

As you likely are aware, my iMac indicates which Apple acct is being synced while (@ least to my knowledge) my iPhone XS does not

Perhaps that is the issue .....perhaps you could guide me to determining if the same acct is on my iPhone & if not how to match w/ the acct indicated on my iMac settings

My iPhone indicates 81GB (19.56 GB to Music) of 256 GB being used .....I created the playlist

Would really like to sort out this rather confusing issue

Thanks

Thanks for reply

Pls allow me to provide some addt info

@ the top it indicates the Apple ID required upon signing up for iCloud (inexplicably Apple would not allow me to use my existing Apple ID which I established years earlier)

Media & Purchases indicates my older Apple ID (& the ID I use for all purchases w/ the exception of monthly charge for iCloud)

Given this addt info ...should I proceed as you directed?

Perhaps I could change my iCloud to my original Apple ID ...when signing up for iCloud, I obviously attempted to use the original Apple ID but the system kept generating a message that Apple ID was taken (correct...by me) .....understand this happened rather frequently

Appreciate your help

Hi SMB,

You're welcome for the help, it can be confusing at times. It sounds like the Apple ID signed in on the iPhone under Media & Purchases is the same Apple ID signed in to Apple Music on your Mac. So in this case, you wouldn't need to sign out.

We'd revert back to that article above: Turn on Sync Library with Apple Music

Except this time, we'd recommend to toggle this off and then back on for the iPhone. It will remove your library and then add it back. This time it should sync that playlist.

Note: If using VPNs or security software on either device, you'd want to disable it, restart the device and then test it out. Sometimes these services block the connection to Apple's servers.

Let us know if that solves it for you, all the best!

Hi destiny

Determined that Apple ID utilized under Media & Purchases & Apple Music were 1 & the same ...did not rectify things

I proceeded to iMac Settings & determined Home Sharing was not turned on on iMac ......activating that did not deliver the elusive playlists to my iPhone but did some in creating "SMB Library" under Home sharing (have provided screen shots)

However, the SMB library & playlists are not downloaded when navigating to SMB library playlists the "timing circle" is seen & a few moments later the data pops up) on iPhone rendering the music inaccessible when away ...bit of a problem

Suggestions ...appreciate your help

Hey SMB,

This would be expected behavior for Home Sharing, since you would have to connect to the iMac through the network to see the Music content: Use Home Sharing to share media from a computer to other devices It would only be available if you were connected to that network.

If you haven't toggled 'Sync Library' on the iPhone, we'd try that first.

In case that doesn't sort it out, then we'd recommend to Contact Apple Support

As the content should be shared using your Apple Music subscription to your associated devices. If that isn't working properly, they can go through those settings with you and determine how to proceed from here.

Best regards!
