Have attempted this numerous times now after 'buttoning' the apps eg Calendar Notes etc.
Cursor revolves a second and than I have to choose cancel to get out.
Have Turned the Firewall Off, Have Turned Net Barrier Application off, but still nothing.
Baffled?
Also have allowed Less Secure Apps on Gmail account itself
No, but strongly suspect it is something on my Mac air preventing access.
I do not actually get to the point where it creates the new gmail account.
It simply stops in its tracks after selecting the apps you wish to activate (Calendar,Notes etc.)
I Have actually turned the App Password / 2 Factor Authentication on, but this has had no effect, as I say it never gets to the point of creating the gmail account on my Mac Mail.
Only thing I can think of is turning the Firewall off, but my existing gmail accounts work fine, just will not let me create a new one?
I turned the real time scanning on the Virus - off
Likewise the Protection on the Netbarrier - also switched off.
I also turned the Apple Mac firewall off as well.
Still no lock, I thought it may have been.
Just to let you know I was able to create a poor version of the email account by choosing 'Other', instead of gmail, earlier, but deleted it afterwards.
Yeah, would seem so, I believe it is Google themselves who are preventing the creation of the new gmail account on my Mac Air

Did you create an App password at google>
It may just need an App Password...
Also I got this message earlier - so it seems like Google is not the problem

Are you running any VPN, Anti-Virus, or Cleaning apps?
I do have a VPN installed but am NOT connected.
Have NetBarrier and NetVirus, also
Can you turn them all off?
What was poor about the Other method?
Just did appear to be a proper full gmail account like the others.
The fact it works on my iPhone also points to something on my own Mac.
Google & others consider the iOS version of Mal more Secure, not so with the MacOS version of Mail.
