For anyone else having this issue holding the shift key down while starting mail worked like a charm, here's why from what I can tell.

Use the Shift Key

Many users confirmed that opening the Mail app while holding down the Shift key worked for them. By holding Shift while launching an app, you temporarily prevent the app from restoring its saved state. In other words, the Mail app forgets what windows were active the last time you closed it.

  1. Quit the Mail app.
  2. Press and hold down the Shift key and then launch the Mail app again. Wait 5 seconds and exit Mail.
  3. Repeat the process, press the Shift Key, launch Apple Mail and close the app again.
  4. Restart your computer and launch the app normally. Check the results.

Thanks for the help. The Mac Pro is my old trusty stand by. I'm currently on a MacBook Pro M1 and coming from a "hand me down" 2017 iMac from my son, LOL. I just try and do all I can to keep it up and running, very little problems with it though. I really don't keep much email try and delete as much as I can, sitting at about 32 right now and will go though those in a bit. Again thanks for the help, I knew there would be someone in the community to help.
