Firmware password

I recently bout a box of old laptops and macs at a flea market , One of them is a Macbook Pro that does power up but it goes to a screen with a lock on it. I tried restarting and held down the command -R but it still goes to the screen with a big lock on it and a place to enter a password. What I have read online suggests a firmware password has been put on it.

Not much you can do...

What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Mac ...
