Unable to update iphone to 14.7

I get an error message when I try to update Xr iphone (model MT2L2LL/A) to version 14.7 (currently on 14.6). If I turn off wifi I can see that the update is available but install/download is greyed out. If I turn on wifi (two different networks) I get an error message "Unable to check for update"

Of course, warranty expired 3 days ago . . .

Make sure you are meeting the following criteria:


  1. You are connected to Wi-Fi. You cannot update over cellular data
  2. You have at least 50% battery, and/or the iPhone is plugged in to charge
  3. Low Power Mode is disabled
  4. You are not connected to a VPN/proxy


You can use https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201435 to troubleshoot updating. You might need to use a computer.
