Messages syncing across different Apple IDs

A few years ago(2016) my dad set up my first apple device which was the iPad Air 2. He set it up with his own Apple ID as he wasn’t sure what else to use. My problem is that now I can see messages sent by him and from other people to him. This is problematic for a number of reasons which I don’t think I have to explain. Anyway, I changed the Apple ID associated with my iPad in settings but I still received his messages and messages sent by him said they were sent by me. Also I am 100% sure that he is using his Apple ID to send and receive messages. I checked my contact card for sending and receiving messages and it had my name and I’m not sure if we are using the same contact card as well.

I would greatly appreciate help in solving this issue and the cause of it. I am open to answer questions if needed.

Did you change the Apple ID in Settings/Messages and Settings/FaceTime?

I think I have figured this out. It seems like I stopped receiving messages at June 9th. My theory is that I changed my Apple ID on that date, however, the messages saved onto the main storage of my iPad. Honestly though, it seems a bit weird that it worked like that. I think the messages should be deleted as soon as Apple ID is changed. Anyway, all I have to do to solve the problem now is delete all the messages. I will be closing this discussion in 3 days for the case that someone decides to comment.

After changing the Apple ID in FaceTime, did you restart the device to reset the change?

For the apps, is Family Sharing set up between you and your Dad? Even if it isn't set up, you should be able to access the apps, but you won't be able to update the apps.

Right. That’s why it may be best to wipe the MacBook and start over with just your Apple ID. Otherwise, you should be able to sign out of Apple ID under settings > your profile. That will sign out everywhere then log in under yours.

you could also simply make a new user account for you.

the goal is to separate accounts, right?

Apparently, I forgot to change the Apple ID of Settings>FaceTime, however, after changing it the problem still persists. I did follow the steps in that article. Also I think it's worth mentioning that I can access apps that were purchased under his Apple ID even after changing my Apple ID.

I did restart the device to reset the change. I am able to update apps that were purchased under his Apple ID and Family Sharing isn't even set up. Also as an update, I am planning on selling my iPad Air 2 and I have reset all settings and content. Now the device of subject is my Macbook Air(it got the same problem when I synced iCloud with my iPad).

I appreciate the help but my problem is not that I don't know what to do before selling the iPad. All I was saying is that now the problem is only on my Macbook Air and that my Macbook Air got the same problem when I synced iCloud with my iPad.
