AppleTV won't let me swap remotes

I have an AppleTV 4K and recently replaced its remote with the new model. Works well but I want to use the old remote as well (because it has an accelerometer one of my kids' games uses.)

  1. Can I somehow use both?
  2. When I try to unpair the new remote, it's very touch and go. I click on Setup > Remotes and Devices > Remotes and it only sometimes shows the Unpair and Disconnect buttons -- other times it only shows the remote's characteristics (serial number, firmware rev, battery level) as in attached photo.
  3. When I did successfully disconnect I could not get it to see the old remote. But maybe the battery was low; I charged it but then could not get the Unpair button up (see 2, above).

Not sure is his relevant but I am also using a Logitech Harmony paired to the AppleTV.

Hello moe52,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. We understand you are looking for some information regarding pairing remotes to your Apple TV. We are happy to help provide some guidance.

To begin, you aren't able to pair more than one remote to the Apple TV at a time. Once you pair a new remote to the Apple TV, any other paired remote is automatically unpaired. You can read more about how to pair and reconnect remotes to the Apple TV in this helpful guide:

We hope this information helps.

Cheers.
