Can't upgrade to MacOs 10.10

HELP PLEASE!

I have a Macbook Air Mid 2011 that runs on MacOs 10.9.5

I have been trying to upgrade it to MacOs X Yosemite and it always says that the installation was successful but after restarting it, it was still MacOS 10.9

I also tried contacting Apple Support but since this Macbook is vintage, we already exhausted what he knows can help me.

I also tried repairing the drive/device and it's okay. I have more than enough storage available. I also tried reinstalling OS X using Disk Utility but I keep receiving a pop-up message "A download is missing".

I just want to at least update it to 10.10

Please help me 🙏

Which method were you using t upgrade to Mac OS X Yosemite.

Did you download the InstallOSX.dmg.

Did you open that to get the InstallOSX.pkg.

Did you open that and then get an installation window.

The installation window does not install Yosemite, what it actually does

is create the Install OS X Yosemite.app in your Applications folder, have a look.

This is what you use to install Mac OS X Yosemite.

As mentioned before you can upgrade to macOS High Sierra.

Here is how.

Open Safari and click on this link,

How to get old versions of macOS – Apple Support

Go to the Download OS section and click on macOS High Sierra.

Before upgrading make a full back up of your Mac.

Check that third party apps you use have updates available for the new OS.

https://roaringapps.com

Check that your printers/ scanners etc have updated drivers and software available for the new OS.

Connect your mac to your router via cable rather than rely on WiFi.

Do not use your mac while it is downloading

and do not use any other devices that share the same internet connection.

If the App Store says ‘Open’ then it is detecting a previous download of the install app

go to the Applications folder locate Install macOS High Sierra.app.

Move it to the Trash, empty the Trash.

Restart, click on the link again, the App Store should say ‘Get' or 'Download'.

A 2011 Mac can run up to macOS 10.13 High Sierra.

Are you running any anti-virus apps, cleaning apps, or third party security software which may be interfering with the upgrade? Try booting into Safe Mode and running the installer again. Make sure you have first installed all the updates for macOS 10.9.5 as well.

You can also create and use a bootable macOS USB installer using these instructions:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372

I highly recommend you have a good backup before attempting to upgrade macOS just in case something goes wrong.

FYI, You should always have frequent and regular backups.
