Mac mini as music server: always defaults to internal speaker

I'm trying to use a mac mini as my digital music drive. But if I ever turn it off, it always defaults to playing through its (lousy) internal speaker and not my stereo system.

The only way I can fix it is to drag my desktop down to it (I can't get my macbook pro to act as its monitor).

Frustrating!

Suggestions much appreciated.

You change the default output, you can change it in Sound within Preferences.

You can remotely administer your Mac mini from your MacBook Pro if you go into Preferences and enable Screen Sharing.

To access it remotely, you will navigate to Network through the Finder. Double click on the computer and in the upper right side, click on Share Screen. Then log in with the credentials for the Mac mini.

I hope this helps!
